English Learner services are provided to students who are identified through an English language screener as needing additional support in the English language and English academic skills. Students are evaluated by teachers trained to administer the English language screener. English Learners are serviced mainly through a pull-out model during TIDE (Targeted Instruction Differentiation and Enrichment) time or during in-classroom instructional model.
Palos 118 has approximately 450 English Learners. English Learners make up 20% of the district’s overall enrollment. There are 35 languages spoken in Palos 118 of which the top three languages are Arabic, Polish and Spanish.
If you have questions about programs for English Learners (ELs), you are invited to contact Huwaida Hamed (hhamed@palos118.org) or call 708-761-5811 or Administrative Assistant Karina Waxmansky (kwaxmansky@palos118.org).
